Is Cellulite Permanent?

Is Cellulite Permanent?

August 14, 2018 Off By Michael Kerin

Cellulite is a common issue for men and women alike. It is more common in women. It causes the
skin to wrinkle and dimple in certain places on the body, such as the belly, hips and the buttocks.
Although cellulite is undesirable, it does have important functions within the human body.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is caused by adipose tissue composed of fat cells under the skin. Fat cells that compose
the adipose tissue forms within honeycomb structures. In 1986, two researchers, Markman and
Barton were able to explain how cellulite forms. They stated that the deeper of the adipose
tissue breaks down and pushes fat cells up onto the skin and cause it to dimple.

The Role of Fat in the Body

Fat or lipids have important roles in the human body. They are converted to hormones, they are
used to make up the outer membranes of the cells, and when stored for a long period of time, it
can be broken down into energy during times when food is not plentiful. Stored fat also provides
the body with insulation to keep the body warm in cold climates during the winter. Fat cells are
stored in a tissue known as the adipose tissue. It is a layer that exists directly under the skin.
Research has shown that cellulite that exists in the lower extremities of the body such as the hips
and the legs, also has a protective role against chronic, long term diseases such as heart disease
and diabetes.

Cellulite is not Permanent and Can Be Metabolized with Regular Exercise and Proper Nutrition

Cellulite is not a permanent condition. Although an active lifestyle and routine exercise cannot cure cellulite, doing so does minimize it’s appearance.  It does not pose a health risk that you should be concerned
or worried about. The fat that makes up cellulite is biochemically similar to other fat deposits in the
body. With regular exercise and eating a diet that is low in fat and carbohydrates, fat cells can be
metabolized or broken down through the Krebs Cycle. In the Krebs Cycle, fat is broken down into
glucose. The cells convert glucoses molecules into useable energy.

With exercise and proper nutrition, you can control the amount of calories that you consume and
expend. By burning more calories than you take in, more fat that was previously stored will be
released from the adipose tissues and burned as energy. This process will reduce the overall
amount of cellulite throughout the body.
