Can Cellulite be Genetic?

Can Cellulite be Genetic?

October 10, 2018 Off By Michael Kerin

Plenty of people wonder whether cellulite is genetic. Most researchers have discovered that most diseases and disorders have a genetic basis, and these discoveries have been made possible with the emergence of DNA profiling. However, there is still no clear evidence to suggest that cellulite is a genetic condition. Previously, cellulite has always been linked to family history as a result of the many existing correlations but the condition has no direct link to genetics.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite can be described as a skin condition that affects both men and women past the puberty stage. The condition is common among women than men who only represent 10% of the total cases. Cellulite is characterized by a dimpled appearance that occurs as a result of the weakening of connective fibers between the skin and muscles. The skin tends to appear dimpled or bumpy when the fat tissue pushes through the skin tissue.

Traditionally, cellulite has always been associated with lifestyle factors such as lack of exercise,
poor diet, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, and stress. However, there are some research
findings that suggest that the development of cellulite is to some extend influenced by genetics.
This is manifested in the pulling down of the bands on connective tissue on the fat and the
likelihood of the human body to store fat. The bumpy appearance associated with cellulose can
always be seen on the upper arms, buttocks, thighs, and the abdomen.

Is there a Genetic Connection to Cellulite?

As I have mentioned earlier, there is no direct link between cellulite and genetics. However, there
are many instances where people with a family history of cellulite have ended up developing
cellulite. According to study findings, genetics can lead to disorders such as hormonal imbalances
and obesity which are some of the major causes of cellulite.

The fact that cellulite is common among family members means that the issue of genetics cannot
be ruled out. However, those opposed to this type of justification argue that most family members
have similar lifestyles and that is why they end up with similar disease and disorders such as
cellulite.

In most instances, family members adopt similar diets and fitness patterns that end up influencing
their appearance and general health. Lifestyle factors can heighten the incidence of cellulite or
actually cause the condition. This argument is based on the premise that family members are more
likely to end up with a similar amount of cellulite if they maintain the same exercise and eating
habits.

What is the Most Effective Way to Treat Cellulite?

Prevention is the best way to treat cellulite. The risk of cellulite can be lowered by working out,
eating a balanced diet, as well as maintaining a healthy weight. In addition, the condition can be
treated through medical procedures, massage, and creams. The most notable medical procedures
for treating cellulose include minimally invasive Cellulaze and non-invasive SmoothShapes.
